What is Maxmypoint.com?
Maxmypoint is a Hotel Award search engine. They have a plethora of information available regarding each hotel, with the main ingredient being their hotel reward calendar where they showcase each hotel’s points availability for standard rooms, suites, etc. as well as cash pricing.
Information Covered
Each Hotel has the following, if available, covered in it’s posting:
- Availability Calendar
- Percent of Nights available
- Standard room availability
- Suite availability
- Club room availability
- Cash price and availability
- Alerts – set for notifications as availability opens
- Cents per point- The average cent per point value from a stay here
Hotels Covered
While originally this was not the case, Maxmypoint now covers Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton AND IHG. This is very helpful when searching for hotels in a specific spot, and the fact that you can switch in between brands. I have certainly appreciated this flexibility, however, you will need to look at accuracy for the less popular hotels.
Accuracy
We have found with the more popular hotels there is incredible accuracy. There has been some discrepancy, however, with some of the less popular hotels, but to their credit, they have the “last updated date” on the site, and you can see clearly that it may not be exactly on point.
Membership
If you are not a member, your hotel detail views are limited to 10 per day. And you can only set one hotel alert. I have never found this to be a problem, but if you want more access, you can pay the 5-10 dollars a month to search more freely and gain the multiple alert availabilities. This alert service from Maxmypoint could be helpful if you are looking at one of the more popular properties like Alila Ventana Sur.
Ad Heavy
My best friend hilariously recounts her thoughts that I sent her to a scam when I sent her here because of all the ads. Websites get paid through ads, and this is how they are supporting their site outside of memberships. I have used it a lot and haven’t had any issues.
Maps
The maps feature is newer to the site, but if you don’t know which hotel you are staying at and want to pick the area of town, as well as cents per point, this map feature could be a helpful place to start. I picked New York City for this screenshot as we will be staying here soon, and you can see the vast array of properties and cent per point differences.
Alerts
The Alerts feature from Maxmypoint provides a variety of hotel alert options:
- Full Stay
- Any Day
- Pay by Point
- Pay by Cash (Hyatt and IHG)
You are able to input minimum and maximum points per day, which is helpful for some properties that have exorbitant points valuations some days. The free version gives you one alert that will update you every 3 hours, and the paid versions have less time between alerts, and more alerts available.
Conclusion
All in all, for a free service this site is a delight. Maxmypoint has given me so much value, and made trip planning far easier. Paying for the paid services wasn’t an option for us, so having this has been a game changer in our vacation plans.
