What is Player 2?
Player 2 is terminology used in the travel hacking community to describe your travel partner, who travel hacks along side you. This may be your spouse, your mom, your best friend, or your brother. It is the person with whom you want to either share travel benefits, or the person you want to exchange referrals with to increase your points.
Why do I want a Player 2?
There are a couple of reasons why someone might want a player 2 instead of an authorized user on the same card.
- To increase their points – If you utilize player 2 with the person you travel with most often, whether it be a spouse or friend, your points will go twice as far. If you are both earning points on credit cards, you can then pool them together for a much better experience.
- To earn a referral bonus – This is where those “non-frequent travel partners” come in handy. You can refer up to 5 people with most credit cards, By sending those referrals to others, you get a big chunk of points, and if you utilize the referrals from others, your friends and family get that big chunk of points. It’s a win-win-win. In fact, we recommend always using a referral link from someone when signing up to spread the points and miles love around!
Authorized Users
If you’re like myself and my spouse, you always add an authorized user when one of you gets a Credit Card. Well, as travel hackers, it’s time to reform yourself from this practice. No more authorized users.
Adding an authorized user, can not only impact your 5/24, because the bank automatically counts this as a card for you, but also doesn’t get you the added signup bonus from your player 2 or the referral bonus from your player 1. That is leaving a ton of points on the table.
