Travel Benefits
Rental Car Coverage
If you decline the rental car company’s coverage, this can cover you in the event of theft or collision. This will be secondary to your auto insurance.
Baggage Insurance
If you purchase your ticket with your AMEX gold card and your bag is lost, stolen, or damaged, you are eligible to $1,250 for a carry-on bag, and $500 for a checked bag for reimbursement.
Return Protection
This is a huge benefit that often goes unnoticed, but if you make large purchases with your AMEX gold card, this is a good one to pay attention to. If you make a purchase and try to return it within 90 days of purchase, and they refuse to accept it, AMEX could refund up to $300 per item. This is capped at $1,000 per account per year.
Conclusion
The Amex Gold card is a solid choice for a rewards credit card. AMEX points are transferrable to Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, Virgin Atlantic, Hilton, Emirates, Singapore, British Airways, KLM, and many others. Many value AMEX points highly for international flights because they transfer so well to many international partners. The other benefit that this AMEX gold card provided for us was the ability to receive points as payment on Rakuten. This has provided a really high value for our family. The annual fee for this card is high, at $250, so it’s worth it to decide if it has the long term benefit for your family. If you’re struggling to decide whether to Keep, Cancel, or Downgrade after a year, we have you covered HERE. All that to say, this card is a winner for many people and worth it to consider for your family.
